Hoypus Point Trail

Distance: 6.1 miles (loop)

Difficulty: 3

Hoypus Point offers numerous marked trails that can be selected as desired for various relatively short walks, or  combined for a longer loop around the point.  All marked trails are well maintained.  There are multiple marked trailheads on Cornet Bay Road and one at the end of Ducken Road.  The path identified on the map below was walked during January after several days of wet weather and there was a bit of water on parts of the trail system.  This area contains a wide variety of forest systems, including areas with large maples, firs, alders, ferns and forest replantings.  Much of the forested area has very little undergrowth, allowing for good viewing of wildlife.  Maximum trail elevation for the walk shown is approximately 390 feet and lowest is sea-level.  A compass or GPS might be handy if you are unfamiliar with this area.

This trail can be combined with the Hoypus Point Logging Road hike (utilizing the Hemlock Hideaway connection trail) for a lengthier walk.  Also see South Park Trails superimposed on aerial photo (50K) and Hoypus Point topo relief 1 and relief 2.
