Goose Rock Summit Loop

Distance: 2.2 miles (loop)

Difficulty: 3

Begin at the bridge south-end parking lot.  A clockwise route circuit will access the summit at the beginning of the walk and affords more gradual ascents overall.  Cross under the road via the stairway and follow trail signs to the top.  Be sure to explore both peaks as this is the highest elevation on Whidbey Island and affords great views.  Watch for an abundance of wildflowers in the spring.  Carefully switchback down the well-maintained trail on the south side of the rocky summit, beginning your descent from trail at the east peak.  Notice the abundance of native rhododendrons as the trail leaves the windblown rocky summit area and enters the forested zone.  After enjoying the secluded area at the west end of Cornet Bay continue westward up the hill, cross beneath the road through the special pedestrian underpass and look for the North Beach trail to loop back up to the parking area.  There are several steep banks and cliffs near the trails in these areas so be sure to keep young children very close by.
