From lichen dyes used in Scottish kilt tartans, to indicators of air pollution- come and learn more about this mysterious organism. Join Dr. Glew with an introduction to lichens, including their importance and contributions to ecosystems! Afterwards, there will be an open-ended 1 mile hike up to the summit of Goose Rock to view and identify a variety of lichens.”
This program will be led by Dr. Katherine Glew, associate curator, University of Washington Herbarium, Burke Museum of Natural History.

Participants are encouraged to bring water, a magnifying glass, and dress for wet weather with suitable footwear.
The program will begin at the Park Administration Office, located at 41020 SR 20 Oak Harbor. Parking is limited, so please carpool- overflow parking can be found at the South bridge parking lot.
